Daniel Spiljar 654d98cbb4 Fix multiple compilation errors and memory leaks. ...

- Rename malloc_message() because it was causing a compilation error on
  FreeBSD.
- Use correct type as a return from gzdopen().
- Memory allocation, header file includes, etc.
